The west side of the bay

The first place in Victoria where the settlers landed was Point Cook on the west side of Port Philip Bay. You can just make out a very interesting monument in the distance. This was built to mark the spot.

It was a warm sunny day, and there was no one else around. Except for a friendly park ranger who came to talk to us. He was very concerned about our footwear. We were walking in sandals in an area infested with Tiger Snakes apparently.

There was a great view from the top of the monument. This area is a salt marsh, which is being managed to keep the birds happy.

You can just make out the skyscrapers in the city on the other side of the bay.
